Chimneys need to be inspected and cleaned on a regular basis so as to prevent the costly event of a chimney fire. Depending on how often you have a fire and the type of fuel being used will depend on how often you will need an inspection and clean. If a fire hasn't been used for a period of time then its important to make sure you have no blockages prior to lighting.You should at least have your chimney inspected and cleaned on a yearly basis but if used often then twice yearly wouldn't be unusual.
